All students receive health care benefits while enrolled at UCSF. Benefits begin on September 1 for incoming students.
Please note that immunizations ARE required of all entering UCSF graduate students. It is your responsibility to be up to date on all your immunizations BEFORE arriving to UCSF.

- Getting Care - schedule an appointment at the Parnassus or Mission Bay Student Health clinic. Also: Primary Care, Counseling & Psychological Services, Nutrition Services, Alcohol & Drug Consultation, HeartMath Biofeedback, Nursing Consult, Immunization & TB Screening, Traveler’s Health, Specialty Care Coordination & Referrals, Medical Records Requests, Prescription Refills
- Medical Benefits - description of benefits, plan numbers, downloading ID card, deductibles, co-pays, out of area care, description of coverage
- Dental Benefits - description of benefits, plan numbers, filing claims, downloading ID card, deductibles, co-pays, out of area care, description of coverage. Students are eligible to receive care at the in-network Student Clinic (only) at the UCSF School of Dentistry, which is part of the Delta Dental network. Care received in the UCSF faculty dental practice is out-of-network.

- Prescription Plan - description of benefits, group policy number, downloading ID card, deductibles, co-pays, description of coverage, how to get your prescription filled at a pharmacy or by mail order.
- Mental Health - Students are eligible to receive short-term counseling at Student Health and Counseling Services each academic year at no charge. Please see Counseling and Psychological Services for more information about in-clinic counseling services. For long-term counseling, enrollees can choose an in-network or out-of-network provider.
- ID Cards - this is now done through the Student Portal.
- Download your UC Student Health Insurance Plan (UC SHIP) Member ID number on the Student Portal (click on the My Health tab).
- End of Coverage Insurance Options - when you graduate, you may want to investigate these options to ensure you have no break in coverage before starting a new job.
